"ජීවිතය අධිවේගී මාර්ගයකි" "Life is a Highway"

 

සියවසක් තිස්සේ චිකාගෝ සිට ලොස් ඇන්ජලීස් දක්වා සැතපුම් 2,400 ක් පමණ විහිදී ගිය පුරාවෘත්තීය අධිවේගී මාර්ගය වන "රූට් 66" (Route 66) ඔස්සේ ඇමරිකානු සිහිනය පසුපස හඹා ගිය දහසක් දෙනා සමගින් 2026 වසරේදී එම මාර්ගය එහි ශත සංවත්සරය සමරයි. කතෘ ජෝන් ස්ටයින්බෙක් විසින් "මව් මාර්ගය" ("The Mother Road") ලෙස නම් කරන ලද රූට් 66 නිදහසේ සහ වික්‍රමාන්විතයේ සංකේතයක් ය. මෙම අද්විතීය ඇමරිකානු නිධානය සංරක්ෂණය කිරීමට අඛණ්ඩව දරන උත්සාහයන්ට සහ එහි කල් පවතින ආත්මයට ගෞරව කරමින්, එක්සත් ජනපද තැපැල් සේවයේ නව මුද්දර මෙම සංකේතාත්මක මාර්ගයේ සියවන සංවත්සර සමරු මුද්දර නිකුතුව ට කල්තියාම සැරසෙයි. 

2025 ඔක්තෝබර් 29 වන දින එක්සත් ජනපද තැපැල් සේවා විසින් 2026 දී එළිදැක්වීමට නියමිත මුද්දර නිර්මාණ 19 ක් නිවේදනය කරන ලද අතර, මෙම මුද්දර එහි කැපී පෙනෙන අයිත්මයකි. මුද්දර කලා අධ්‍යක්ෂක ග්‍රෙග් බ්‍රීඩින් (Greg Breeding) සහ ඡායාරූප ශිල්පී ඩේවිඩ් ජේ. ෂ්වාට්ස් (David J. Schwartz) එක්ව නිර්මාණය කරන ලද මෙම සමරු මුද්දර සඳහා රූට්ස් 66 ගමන් කරනා ප්‍රාන්ත 8 හි එක් එක් ප්‍රාන්තයේ දර්ශන යොදා ගෙන, ජාතියක අනන්‍යතා සංකේත ලෙස සමරු මුද්දර වල වටිනාකම සහ ඓතිහාසික බව මතු කර තිබේ.

“රූට් 66 යනු ඇමරිකානු ඉතිහාසය, සංස්කෘතිය සහ අනන්‍යතාවය එකට ගෙතූ ගෙත්තමකි. එය මිනිසුන් ගමන් කළ, අනුවර්තනය වූ සහ ප්‍රජාවන් ගොඩනඟන ආකාරය පිළිබඳ කතාව කියයි. එහි  ධාවනය කිරීමෙන් ඔබව එම කතාවට සැබෑ සහ ස්පර්ශනීය ආකාරයකින් සම්බන්ධ කරයි." (“Route 66 is a tapestry that weaves together American history, culture, and identity. It tells the story of how people traveled, adapted, and built communities. Driving it connects you to that story in a real, tangible way.”)

1980-1990 දශක වල ශ්‍රී ලංකා තැපැල් සේවයේ ද මෙවැනි කාර්යක්ෂම සැලසුම් කිරීම් තත්වයන් දක්නට ලැබුණු අතර, වසර අවසාන සමරු මුද්දර නිකුතු වලට අදාල විස්තර පත්‍රිකාවල ඉදිරි වසරේ මුද්දර සැලසුම් පිළිබඳ තොරතුරු ඇතුළත් විය. නැවත මෙවන්  පුළුල් ඉදිරි දැක්මක් සහ සැලසුම්කරණයක් සහිතව ජාතියක් සන්නාම ගත කිරීම සඳහා වන මුද්දර නිර්මාණය කර ගැනීම සඳහා අප තව කොපමණ කලක් පෙරමඟ  බලා සිටිය යුතුද?

"Life is a Highway"

Route 66, the legendary 2,400-mile highway that stretched from Chicago to Los Angeles for a century, will celebrate its centennial in 2026, with thousands of people following the American dream along the route. Named “The Mother Road” by author John Steinbeck, Route 66 is a symbol of freedom and adventure. Honoring the enduring spirit and ongoing efforts to preserve this uniquely American treasure, the U.S. Postal Service’s new stamps are in advance of the iconic route’s 100th anniversary commemorative stamp issue.

On October 29, 2025, the U.S. Postal Service announced 19 stamp designs to be released in 2026, and these stamps are among the highlights. Created by Philatelic Art Director Greg Breeding and photographer David J. Schwartz, the commemorative stamps feature scenes from each of the eight states along Route 66, highlighting the value and historicity of stamps as symbols of a nation’s identity.

Similar efficient planning was also seen in the Sri Lanka Postal Service in the 1980s-1990s, and the year-end commemorative stamp issues included information about the upcoming year’s stamp plans. How much longer do we have to wait before we see stamps that brand a nation with such a broad vision and planning?
